【摘要】:ThisInternationalStandardisapplicabletothebindingofbooks,periodicalsandarchivedocumentswhichhavespecialrequirementsfordurabilityandpermanence.Theuse,aswellasthewearandtear,oflibraryandarchivedocumentsvaries.Thechoiceofbindingmethodshouldthereforerelatetotheappropriaterequirementsofaspecificlibraryorarchive.Thequalityaswellasthepriceofthebindingisdependentonthischoice.Itisapplicabletothefollowinggeneralprocedures:—first-timehard-coverbindingofpublishedandunpublishedmaterials,andanyotherdocumentsrequiringthistypeofprotection;—rebindingofhard-covermonographs,serialsandanyotherdocuments.Itisnotintendedforbindingvolumesidentifiedbyacustomerashavinghighartifactualorhistoricalvalue,orforanyvolumesthat,becauseoftheirphysicalcharacteristics,cannotorshouldnotbeboundaccordingtothisInternationalStandard.Arrangementsforspecialtreatmentsshouldbemadeseparately.
